Abstract: |
A monitoring visit to a pipeline site revealed evidence of archaeological activity, and a limited archaeological excavation was carried out. The work demonstrated that there had been human activity in the vicinity, although not necessarily continuously, at least since the Iron Age, with a possible cremation cemetery located close to the western limits of the village of Little Wratting. Occupational activity on the site appeared to have been at its most intense between the 11th and 14th centuries, when spreads of material, probably representing yards associated with domestic or agricultural buildings or activities, started to be deposited. Following the medieval period, occupation in the area declined and the area returned to agricultural use. [Au(abr)] |
