Abstract: |
An area 8.5m by 12m was excavated in advance of the proposed construction of a new dwelling and access. This trench was located across a ditch revealed in an earlier evaluation in order to further sample the ditch and to investigate it's immediate surroundings for additional features. A scatter of residual struck flint of Late Neolithic or Bronze Age date suggested activity in the area of the site in this period. A fuller extent of the ditch located in the evaluation was revealed and a large quantity of Roman pottery, brick and tile was recovered. This dated the ditch to the 2nd century. No other archaeological features of Roman date were recorded which further supported the idea that the site was peripheral to the main focus of Roman activity. [Au(adp)] |
