Abstract: |
A three-week excavation was carried out at a site where a previous evaluation had discovered the first archaeological evidence for medieval occupation of Hoxton. During the excavation, late 13th century quarry pits containing pottery of this date were found. Several phases of medieval ovens were identified. These were surrounded by concentric rings of stake-holes, thought to represent some form of superstructure. Pits, post-holes and medieval pottery were also associated with the ovens. Sixteenth century rubbish pits were noted. It was concluded that the site was of local importance. Further post-excavation and publication aims were discussed.[AIP] |
