Abstract: |
A single evaluation trench was excavated on land proposed for an extension to the visitor's car park at Canons Ashby House. A single natural-cut linear feature, probably associated with former cultivation, together with two isolated post holes was revealed. The scarcity of medieval and earlier finds, together with a lack of contemporary features suggested that the site was marginal to the focus of former settlement, probably having been used for agricultural purposes throughout the Middle Ages. This was further suggested by earthworks of ridge and furrow cultivation visible on the ground surface. [Au] |
