Abstract:		 A watching brief was held on a large development close to the shore of the River Itchen. No evidence was found for human activity that predated the construction of a large private house, Silvermere House, in 1854. Structural remains associated with the use of the site as part of the Thornycroft shipbuilding yard were also found. [Au]
