Abstract:
An earthwork survey undertaken as part of the Norfolk Earthworks Survey project (NES) provided a comprehensive depiction of features which were variously and incompletely shown on earlier plans. These included: a 3m diameter circular depression on the north-east corner of the barbican bank interpreted as a plausible position for a corner tower; the gateway between the barbican and the lower court was shown on the EH plans, but the abutments of the bridge leading to it from the north were now recorded; to the east of the barbican enclosure was a semi-circular banked enclosure with an entrance opposite that into the barbican. The feature was shown by M Leah in 1985, but the depiction has been amended. [Au(adp)]
