Abstract: |
An earthwork and geophysical survey were undertaken in connection with proposals to construct either a piped drain or swale and the raising and landscaping of a separate area. Pre-18th century field systems were identified in the area to be crossed by the proposed piped drain and just to the west of the proposed swale. The magnetometer survey recorded an existing pipeline across the survey corridor of the proposed piped drain and two additional pipelines at the north-eastern end. The earthwork survey showed that this route crossed a number of earthwork features and lay just to the south-east of other features. The remains of strip-fields, probably of medieval date, a former field boundary (depicted 1725), and four relict ditches or field drains were identified. At the south-western end of the proposed swale corridor, the magnetometer survey recorded a number of probable pre-18th century field boundaries and three possible pits. [Au(abr)] |
