Abstract: |
The evaluation identified the truncated remains of the workhouse wall, in the form of a substantial brick wall in trench one. Three sandstone structures pre-dating the workhouse were identified. Whilst these structures were on the line of an early flood defence shown on a map of 1745, their form suggested that they were no part of the flood defence. It was possible that they related to the former quay or wharf side structures predating the Chester Workhouse, although nothing was shown on the cartographic record. [Au(abr)] |
