Abstract: |
The evaluation identified a significant spread of mortared flints and clunch, with the possible remnants of a wall, which may have been from the Priory or an associated building. A pit of medieval date was located in which in situ burning had occurred. A large feature of probable medieval date was observed which was probably a backfilled fishpond. The section through the moat revealed that it had been re-cuts in recent times. Trenches excavated adjacent to the moat all contained a substantial dump layer, which may have been from an episode of re-cutting A rutted and repaired metalled track of probable medieval origin was also revealed.
