Abstract: |
As part of a research project, eight evaluation trenches were excavated to locate metal working activity within the DMV. A concentration of medieval properties were identified fronting onto Densett Street. An area identified as possibly containing industrial hearths was found to have been created by modern dump deposits, backfilling ponds which may have been formed by quarry activity. At the southern end of the survey area, quantities of slag and ironworking waste was identified, created by smelting and smithing activity. [Au(abr)] |
