Abstract:
An archaeological field evaluation, comprising the excavation of 40 trial trenches, was undertaken prior to phase II of mineral extraction. Seven small ditches or gullies, four of which were certainly or probably post-medieval field boundaries, 10 ash and charcoal-rich pits, probably heathland clearance features, two post holes, a flint scatter of late Upper Palaeolithic date, stray finds of later Neolithic/Bronze Age flint and Iron Age and post-medieval pottery were encountered.
