Abstract: |
The sequence of events evident in the evaluation trench was as follows. In the 16th century a cobbled surface (4522 / 4526) was constructed along the bottom of the slope that led up to Cricklepit Street and the City Wall, perhaps as a path or roadway associated with the leat or industrial activity taking place around it. In the 17th century the slope was cut back to create space for the construction of a terrace of houses. Context 4507 was probably the front wall and 4524 what remained of an internal floor of one of these buildings. It was built on top of the 16th-century surface and material (4528) that had accumulated on top of it. [Au(adp)] |
