Abstract: |
Following the recording of a substantial boundary ditch, infilled by the end of the 12th century, and the remains of three shallow human burials of possible Saxon date, during the excavation of a water-pipe trench, a small-scale evaluation trench was excavated. Evidence for three additional burials, the reduced remains of a stone wall (possibly a graveyard boundary contemporary with the burials), and a sequence of surfaces and resurfacings of the market place with associated finds dating from the late 14th century to the late 18th/early 19th century was revealed.
