Abstract: |
An archeological desk-based assessment of the area of the proposed construction of new buildings for the Universtiy of Oxford's science area demonstrated that it lay in an area of high archaeological potential. Features of prehistoric (Bronze Age and Iron Age) and Roman date had been excavated in the vicinity and many finds (particularly Roman) had been discovered close by, often during building work. As the area had been undeveloped from the Saxon period to the last century it was possible that any archaeological deposits present may have been undisturbed. Although the development sites had been partially affected by building work in the past, there still remained a significant area of land which may have contained undisturbed archaeology. [Au(adp)] |
