Abstract: |
Two trenches were excavated on a site part of the Sainsbury's Nine Elm site. The expected natural floodplain gravel was not encountered, a deep sequence of deposits was revealed. Dating material comprised mid-late 19th century pottery and building materials. It was therefore concluded that the whole site had been quarried for gravel during the 19th century. Given the proximity of the railway it is most likely this activity was associated with its construction. [Au(abr)] |
