Abstract: |
A brick-lined cellar was cleared of rubble under archaeological supervision. The original brick and York stone floor of the cellar had been removed, revealing chalk bedrock, into which had been cut a number of pits, of medieval/post-medieval date. The 18th- century and later brick walls of the cellar were recorded photographically and were described in the report. They had clearly been subjected to a degree of later rebuilding and repair. No in situ deposits dateable earlier than the late 17th century were identified although some areas of the cellar walls would have been of 17th century date. [Au] |
