Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken of the site prior to the proposed construction of an extension with a single-depth basement in the present garden area to the rear of the existing building. This construction was considered likely to remove any presently surviving made ground and archaeological evidence in this area. However, the area remained largely rural until the 18th century and there was not a known concentration of archaeological evidence in the vicinity although finds in Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, where a similar rural and parkland landscape was preserved, did suggest a background potential for prehistoric features.
