Abstract: |
The results of the watching brief confirmed that archaeological deposits were present on the site of the cottages but the limited extent of the foundation investigations made it difficult to ascertain the exact nature of the deposits. A considerable quantity of broken potsherds mainly dating to the 19th and early 20th centuries was recovered along with debris material representing either a construction or demolition episode which included roof slate, tile, brick and glass fragments. The most notable discovery was a section of substantial stone foundation below the existing brick foundation of 176 Rowner Lane. This appeared to be significantly earlier in date. [Au(adp)] |
