Abstract: |
<summary>An assessment of a 20m by 18km corridor which defined the route of a proposed gas pipeline was undertaken. An augering and fieldwork survey was subcontracted to the Passmore Edwards Museum, and a magnetometer survey was carried out by Geophysical Surveys [?of Bradford]. A desk-top study revealed that the pipeline route passed through areas where many prehistoric and later sites had been recorded. Crop marks abounded in the area. The auger survey revealed important peat deposits, whilst the fieldwalking survey discovered slight concentrations of worked flint and possible Roman pottery. The magnetometer survey found few significant anomalies. The study concluded that a constant watching brief should be carried out during the excavation of the pipeline, and that provision should be made for the full recording of any remains exposed. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
