Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken before the proposed construction of five bungalows. Anglo-Saxon burials had been revealed within 200m of the site, which may have been evidence for an important Saxon cemetery in the centre of Linton. Documentary evidence indicated that the site was adjacent to one of the two medieval market places set up in Linton in the 13th century. Medieval buildings still survived within very close proximity to the development area. The evaluation revealed post-medieval deposits in trenches 1, 2, 3 and 6. No Roman, Saxon or medieval remains were encountered in the development area. [Au(abr)] |
