Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches for four houses, at a site where previous evaluation had recorded limited evidence for medieval features and deposits. During the watching brief three medieval ditches were revealed, one of which contained three sherds of 12th century pottery. A medieval pit with 12th-15th century pottery was also found. Post-medieval ditches or gullies, pottery and brick fragments were recorded, and the foundation of a modern structure was observed. It was concluded that the site had been relatively peripheral to the focus of the medieval village. [AIP] |
