Abstract: |
<summary>It was decided to fully excavate a part of the monument since visual inspection and a contour survey had established that the condition of the earthworks was much poorer than when they were surveyed by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England in the 1960s. Soil analysis was also undertaken. It was discovered that the monument may be of diverse form, with contrasting profiles and plans. It is possible that it was constructed piecemeal, although there is no real evidence for long-term building or use of the monument. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea} |
