Abstract: |
Historic building recording and archaeological monitoring and recording was undertaken in advance of building work at Mardleybury Manor. The proposed works comprised the conversion and extension of a small stable to residential accommodation and the construction of new garages. The manor of Mardleybury had a long history, though the house was thought to date principally from the 17th century. The recording exercise revealed the stable to be a modest building, which was probably constructed in the last years of the 19th century. Groundworks associated with the new foundations revealed a simple stratigraphy of natural subsoil and topsoil. No archaeological features or finds were found, though some recent disturbance was encountered on the eastern side of the works. [Au(abr)] |
