Abstract: |
The excavation was undertaken within an area where a previous evaluation had demonstrated the presence of the site of a Late Iron Age/Romano-British farmstead. The excavation revealed that the quality of evidence was variable. No suitable material had survived to provide more precise scientific dates and preservation of environmental evidence was poor. Nevertheless, the Holwell evidence still represented the most fully investigated site of its type in North Hertfordshire and its analysis and publication will make a significant contribution to Iron Age and Roman studies in the region.
