Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment of land proposed for a quarry extension between Rock Road and Cleeve Lane, Wick, identified that the proposal area and its immediate environs had been used as open farmland, mainly for pasture throughout the medieval period. During the post-medieval period some industrial occupation occured within the wider area, including coal and ochre mining to the west and south and small scale quarrying to the south associated with lime kilns. Further to the south in the area of Wick Rocks there were some remains of a possible Iron Age hill-fort. [Au(adp)] |
