Abstract: |
A review of below-ground archaeological significance was undertaken on behalf of Lewes District Council in order to allow informed decisions to be made on the likely impacts to the area from future flood alleviation proposals. Six entries are listed on the SMR within the bounds of the study area: a Franciscan friary, a brewery, Cliffe Bridge, a Neolithic flake axe, medieval and later rubbish pits with a chalk 'surface' and a former cinema. The area has the potential to contain a rich and important archaeological resource. [Au(adp)] |
