Abstract: |
Planning permission was being sought for a residential development of about 3.75ha. An archaeological assessment of the site was undertaken comprising a cartographic and documentary search, analysis of relevant entries in the SMR and a site visit. The site was about 1.5km south-west of Shepshed's historic core in what was formerly the waste of Charnwood Forest until the 19th century. Although a number of archaeological features and finds had been recorded within the general area, these did not extend into the proposed development area and it was considered to have a low potential for the existence of archaeological remains.
