Abstract: |
Relatively little evidence had been recorded for activity within the study area prior to the medieval period, though limited amounts of prehistoric and Roman material had been recovered. Place name evidence suggested that there may have been a settlement in the Saxon period. The present structures represented the remains of buildings of historical and architectual importance. There was also considerable potential for buried post-medieval and earlier remains to be found within the known layout of the former mansion and immediate surrounds. [Au(abr)] |
