Abstract: |
The area was occupied during the Roman period, when Hadrian's Wall was constructed to link the fort at Newcastle with that at Wallsend. The construction of a sewer in 1929 revealed a portion of the wall on the north side of the Fossway, a few metres from the proposed development, which indicated that the wall may have survived in this area.
