Abstract:
The excavation took the form of a single trench measuring 6 by 4 metres and was excavated in the paved area to the east of Antony Salvin's pumphouse. The work was designed to be as non-intrusive as possible, removing only post-1840s backfill deposits to expose the surviving masonry. The excavation identified a section of the outer wall, an embrasure with internal floors and internal structural elements of the Lion Tower. [Au]
