Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken prior to the conversion of redundant barns at the rear of Stoke Farm, in order to identify the potential archaeological impact of the development. The site included the Scheduled Ancient Monument DV 903 'Site of chapel at Manor Farm, Stoke Fleming', a column with a broken scalloped capital incorporated into a by then derelict farm shed which was regarded as having formed part of the aisle arcade of a Norman church or chapel. The greatest impact of the proposed development was identified as being on the potential Norman remains, be they ecclesiastical or secular, further archaeological investigation was recommended.
