Abstract: |
A desktop-study supported by field reconnaisance of a water pipeline corridor between Newbiggin and Aysgarth identified that the pipeline would have direct impact on sites including features associated with a medieval corn mill to the south of Newbiggin, and deposits relating to earlier phases of the village of Newbiggin itself. Further to the north the corridor would bisect the course of a mill race associated with Thoralby Mill and in the vicinity of Thoralby itself the corridor cut across field systems thought to be of medieval date or earlier.
