Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken across the site of the former Children's Hospital. Five trenches were excavated covering an area of c.150 sq.m. Archaeological features dating from the 17th century onwards were found including evidence of local brickearth extraction and brick manufacture. This archaeological investigation was the first to take place in the historic core of the former village of Paddington and it was considered possible that archaeological traces of the historically attested late Saxon settlement might be found. In fact only a single sherd of Saxon pottery was found. [Au(adp)] |
