Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of foundation trenches at a site which lay within a Local Area of Archaeological Importance, close to the postulated north-eastern boundary of the middle Saxon town of Hamwic. A layer of re-deposited brickearth containing worked and burnt flints of possible prehistoric date was recorded. Other layers were of 18th century or later date, and contained fragments of ceramic building material and slate. [AIP] |
