Abstract: |
Documentary research, supplemented by geophysical survey, was undertaken to assess the archaeological implications of the proposed construction of a water main through the grounds of the Hucclecote Centre. This development was related to the construction of the A417 Brockworth Bypass. The proposed development area lay just outside the Scheduled area of Hucclecote Roman Villa, which previous excavations had identified was surrounded by an extensive series of Romano-British field boundaries. The geophysical survey identified two linear features probably representing Roman boundary ditches, and three other such features revealed during the excavation of a pipeline easment on land adjacent may have extended into the proposal area. Traces of ridge and furrow or drains were also identified. [AIP] |
