Abstract: |
Preliminary evaluation, comprising test-pitting, fieldwalking, an auger survey, geophysical survey, earthwork survey and aerial photographic transcription was undertaken of the preferred Brown route for the proposed A354-A353 Dorchester to Weymouth Road Improvements. The study identified four main areas of disturbance where archaeological deposits were unlikely to survive, significant deposits of colluvium in the dry valleys at Lower Bincombe and West Farm, very well preserved lynchets in the dry valley at Lower Bincombe, and a high archaeological potential for the Ridgeway Hill section of the proposed route.
