Abstract: |
The development site lies adjacent to Eardisley Castle and opposite the church. No prior evaluation of the site was undertaken, though the area was thought to possibly contain remains of medieval date and specifically any structure or gatehouse which might have been associated with the entrance to the castle. Medieval deposits survive across this site at approximately 0.30-0.40m below present ground surface. These are dated to the 12th-14th century and include a significant assemblage of medieval pottery. These clearly relate to the adjacent castle and should be considered of similar importance.[AIP] |
