Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation of three trial trenches (13..5m by 2.1m, 14.5 by 2.2m and 10m by 2.4m), was undertaken in response to a condition upon the redevelopment of the site. Only two datable archaeological features were uncovered. This first was a ditch aligned east-west and contained pottery, bone and tile fragments within the fill. The pottery was dated to the 16th century. The only other datable feature was a post-medieval square post hole which contained tiles and a clay tobacco pipe bowl fragment. Three square post holes which formed a fence line were also recorded. Although these features did not contain dating evidence, the presence of decayed wood and the shape of the post holes suggested that they also dated from the post-medieval period. [Au(adp)] |
