Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during refurbishment at 54 Clerkenwell Close, a property within the Scheduled Monument of St Mary's Nunnery. The removal of plaster and paintwork in the basement revealed a number of masonry and brick features and builds. A possible 12th/13th century wall, perhaps part of the gatehouse of St Mary's was observed. Tudor and eighteenth century phases of basement walls were also observed. [AIP] |
