Abstract: |
Sixteen trial trenches were dug in an area of former allotments to test for the presence of archaeology before the site was developed. Although truncated by later arable activity, remnants of furrow suggested the whole area had been within the medieval field system. Some late medieval and early post-medieval features were excavated and residual Neolithic flints as well as Iron Age and Roman pottery, found in later features, implied further early activity. Other undated pits and ditches were cut by the medieval furrows and later deep plough marks and field drains. [Au] |
