Abstract: |
The site was located outside the Roman walls. Six trenches were excavated. Well preserved levels of Roman activity including metalled surfaces, cultivation activity, bank material and possible demolition rubble were cut by two probable ditches. A bank which appeared to have been established in the Roman period and then refurbished and maintained during the medieval period, possibly the medieval town boundary, was also recorded. Evidence for a 19th century tannery was in the form of deep clay lined tanning pits. [Au(adp)] |
