Abstract: |
A programme of historical and archaeological research was undertaken in advance of a proposed planning application. As could be seen from the evidence the area around the site had a reasonable, if ill defined, historical and archaeological potential. The almost complete quarrying of the site since the early 20th century had, however, meant that most portions of the site had almost no archaeological value. The small area that had survived to the southwest and the northern limit of the area (site of the Theedwaym, an early routeway first mentioned in 926) may have had some archaeological remains and this should be borne in mind during the preparation of development briefs. The development of the vast majority of the site, however, had no archaeological implications. [Au(adp)] |
