Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was underttaken during the excavation of a trench for the construction of a sewer main approximately 150m long by 1.5m wide. Underlying the present-day road surface was a consolidated clay in the bottom of the trench cut. The only evidence of earlier activity within the trench was a former road surface c.1m below the existing road. This comprised a deposit of rubble with a tarmacadam surface, indicating a relatively recent age of the deposit. No other features were recorded within the trench. [Au(adp)] |
