Abstract: |
The site lay at the centre of the village of Barley, off the main street, which appeared to have been occupied continously since the Saxon period. It had the potential for medieval remains derived from activity which extended from Church End, or occured adjacent to Crossways. In addition there was evidence of Iron Age and Roman occupation to the immediate north and west. From cartographic sources the site appeared to have been under fields and orchards until the construction of Farriers house in the 20th century. The site was important because no significant archaeological investigations had been undertaken in Barley. [Au] |
