Abstract: |
Fifteen 30 metre long trial trenches were excavated over the area of two proposed fishing lakes. Traces of post-medieval mill leat were located in three trenches. Residual struck flints and post-medieval pottery sherds were found within the alluvial subsoils. A thin band of dark peaty silt was observed overlying alluvial gravels. This was the earlier river valley flood plain, and it revealed no evidence of in situ archaeological remains. It was considered to be too recent and thin as to contain useful environmental information. [Au] |
