Abstract: |
The project comprised the excavation of regularly spaced reception pits. No archaeology was revealed within any of the pits. However, one section of trench revealed a concentration of archaeological features including an undated animal burial pit cut through an earlier phase of extensively burnt deposit, within which lay two possible burnt post holes. A large ditch was also revealed which lay adjacent to the well-defined holloway of a ridgeway track. These features may relate to activity associated with either The Sanctuary or the nearby barrow cemetery, but could not be dated on present evidence.[Au(abr)] |
