Abstract: |
An evaluation was undertaken of land proposed for an extension to an existing quarry. Geophysical surveys, fieldwalking, trial-trenching and auger transects were undertaken to further investigate six cropmark sites identified during an archaeological assessment and to identify the archaeological potential of zones without cropmarks within the proposal area. Numerous features ranging from Bronze Age to post-medieval in date were recorded relating to the known cropmark sites. Although few areas of archaeological potential were identified during investigation outside the areas of the known cropmarks, the evaluation produced evidence of significant palaeo-environmental deposits within the proposal area.
