Abstract: |
An archaeological desktop study was commissioned as part of a planning application to develop the site for residential purposes. The site lay immediately north of an important Iron Age hillfort, Caesar's Camp, SAM GL101. A possible outlying bank of the complex lay within the Farringley's site, and earlier work on the hillfort suggested that there may have been an entrance on the northern ramparts at the point where the Farringleys boundary meets the Holwood Estate. Much of the rampart was damaged during landscaping in the 18th century. Mesolithic remains were also considered likely to be discovered as extensive working floors were known nearby. Roman and Saxon remains were known from nearby, though there was considered to be less likelihood of discovery on this site. [Au(adp)] |
