Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring of the test pits confirmed the results of an earlier evaluation; that a fairly thick homogeneous layer of cultivated 'garden' soil overlay 'head' deposits. The archaeological deposits present appeared to have only survived where they had cut into the 'head'. The late 18th to 19th century flint and brick northern boundary wall was shown to rest on shallow foundations and may have overlain, at least in one place, a chalk wall/foundation relating to an earlier medieval/post-medieval building which had fronted Brooman's Lane.
