Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a site which primarily comprised floodplain within the valley of the River Trent. Strong settlement evidence had been recorded throughout the surrounding area, and the central depressions of two palaeochannels had been identified at the site itself. Three trial trenches were excavated, and samples of peat were removed from the palaeochannels for analysis, but no features other than modern field drains were revealed. Five pieces of prehistoric worked flint, two fire-cracked pebbles and post-medieval pottery and clay pipe were recovered. Several test-pits were hand-excavated, but no further artefacts were found. Three auger transects were also drilled, but no further palaeochannels or environmental deposits were recorded. [AIP] |
